I had the amazing oppertunity to work on America's Next Top model this past year!
I got to be key assistant to Vincent Oquendo, a New York and LA based Make-up artist that
works can be seen in numerous commericals and editorials. It was the best experience of my
career thus far, and I'm so happy that I got to share it with many of my collegues and friends.
I've learned many things since my work with Vincent and started practicing them now.
Such as a love for the skin! Love for the use of your fingers, and ofcourse his attention to
detail. So catch me, if you see me on America's Next Top Model from now on.

So one thing that i've learned working in this industry, is that it's hard not to be envious of others achievments and just worry about what your doing to make yourself better. I love creating magic in what I do because I get to see people become better than me. The I light that candle under my butt and I get rolling and take myself to the next level.

Here's some advice for the aspiring make-up artist, hair stylist, and editorial worker.

1. FIND A COACH.
A coach is someone who is going to tell you what your doing right, and what else you can
do to make it better, now it may hurt at times, DON'T take it PERSONAL! it's only to move
you forward and challenge you to become the person your meant to be.

2. FIND A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VISION
It's very important to surround yourself with the people who are just like you.
I've chosen to surround myself with 1, my coaches and 2, people in hawaii who are looking
to change the face of hawaii's industries from the groundUP.
If you surround yourself with people who are always dogging you and criticising(sp?) your
work, your never going to move forward and your never going to achieve your dreams.
remember ...Art is subjective... but it is expressive... Surround yourself with the people
that are going to praise you, give you feedback and move you forward.

3. INVEST IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL KIT
Make-up and Hair tools don't just appear out of thin air... It takes money to make money.
now i'm not saying stock up M.A.C, if it's in your means...great... if not, find what works
for you. Your Tools are Your Professional Tools for work, meaning... The brushes you use
to work on faces on location should not be the same brushes you paint your face with in
the morning, neither should the products your using on "YOUR" face be the same your
using on the model.

4. BE INFORMED....
READ ALL FASHION EDITORIAL MAGAZINES... !!!WARNING!!! you will be spending a
ton of money on publications...Look at stories from magazines that stray from the norm.
Cosmopolitan is great! but Italian Vogue is what your going for... THIS is where it's ALL
about the pictures...Use them as inspiration for your look, your model and what else you
can do to make this look your own... YOU MUST do your homework...
See what is happening on the runways, What's in...What's out..and what's on the horizon.

***PRECAUTION***

Now, this is from my personal experience. In no way am i saying that this is going to gain you
ultimate fame and make you the best darn person on a photoshoot or a runway show.
This is what i have learned and this is what i pass on to the world or whoever happens to drop
by this little space of mine...

I had the amazing oppertunity to work with an amazing model. Now every model i work with is amazing, but this was the first time i worked with a model that has been graced on the covers of london magazines and has walked the runways of milan and paris. She is probably blushing right now as/if she is reading this.

I've never been to London, Paris, Italy or New York yet...but I pick her brain everytime i see
her because she has been all the places I want to work at, and i need to know the caliber
and what it takes to make it in those big name cities.

When this girl poses, she moves..She KNOWS her body...Click...pose..click..pose..click..pose.
I was in awe the way she made Matt B.'s garments take a life of their own. she brought out
the make-up and the hair that i had sculpted and shaped on her. ..With the combination of
HaroldJULIAN, RYANC., M.B.inc, and the groundUP Agency we are going to take hawaii by storm!!!!! WATCH OUT!!!

MY VISION

Good evening World

Today was an awesome day... I met many people and did many things.
but the most of all that stands out in my mind is the Hawaii World
Class Wedding Expo 2009 Spring/Summer. I spent a good amount of my
day preparing soon-to-be brides for their very special day...

It was wonderful, I met a woman who is a financial advisor and she
"advised" me with some great information. I should create a blog
and let the world know what I am doing and where I am going with
my dreams and my vision. I took that advice and ran with it.

Every birthday 12-14 I decide on a life changing decision. Last 12-14 I decided that I wanted a salon:a space of my own, I decided i'd give myself two years to do it. Well if anyone knows me well, if i want somthing i get it. I will open the doors to ryanjacobie before this year ends. Do I have alot of work cut out for me? You bet, so thats why I have the best coaches in the world.
